A method of calculating detonation evolution in the frame of reference attached to the lead shock is described for one- and two-dimensional systems. Unlike conventional methods that smear the lead shock across several grid points, this method computes the shock behavior directly and is shown to describe the reaction zone dynamics much more accurately. Comparisons with analytical stability theory are provided. The formation of transverse shocks and detonation cells is examined.
