Recent in vivo fluorescence measurements have made possible the quantification of a concentration gradient of the maternal morphogen Bicoid in D. melanogaster embryos. Here, we present results of a numerical solution of a model that describes the formation of this gradient solely based on diffusion and protein degradation.
