Wachspress (1975) determined that certain rational functions perform well as basis functions in finite element methods (FEM). Wachspress showed that the form of the basis function is dependent upon the geometry of the zone, and that basis functions may be built for very general zone shapes. My research investigates building and integrating Wachspress rational basis functions and applying them in a finite element method to solve radiation flow problems on arbitrary, convex quadrilateral zones in two dimensions.
