We present an overview of some major issues in computational simulation of coupled, multicomponent systems, as exemplified by the simulation of solid propellant rockets. High-fidelity simulation of such a complex system requires simultaneous simulation of fluid, solid, and combustion components and their interactions with each other. Topics addressed include algorithms for data transfer between components with diverse discretizations, consistent time stepping, software integration, and scalability on parallel computers.
