Computational Science involves the innovative application of mathematics, computer science and high performance computing to the study of scientific and engineering challenges. The role of mathematics in computational science is in the innovative development and application of new mathematical models, algorithms and software to enhance and enable these scientific and engineering studies. This presentation will discuss the development, over the past half century, of many of the essential mathematical ideas that support computational science at scale today, drawing from the speaker’s own experiences over that period of time.
