Transfer of biological information can be modeled as a communication channel with the DNA sequence as the input and the amino acid sequence which forms protein at the channel output. Previous work showed that error control coding can be used to describe the translation initiation region in an average sense. To further the analysis methods to search for block codes using graph theory, and convolutional codes using a genetic algorithm have been considered. This poster will describe what models are currently being considered and how closely they approximate the actual genetic translation channel.
