Summary of Research

My research focuses on studying various kinetic effects which occur in inertial confinement fusion (ICF) implosions. These kinetic effects are deviations from the hydrodynamic models which are often used to simulate and model these implosions, so understanding the prevalence and impact of kinetic effects will let us better understand when our current models might be unable to accurately predict the physics. My main project currently involves conducting a series of experiments to probe the kinetic effects associated with fast ion beams occurring in these systems, and developing analysis tools associated with the optical Thomson scattering diagnostic which is used to measure velocity distribution functions in my experiments.
