From the discovery that black holes evaporate, quantum information has been a central element in one of the most important open questions in gravity: How do black holes transfer information into their emitted Hawking radiation? Recent results suggest, however, that the pervasiveness and importance of quantum information theory in quantum gravity stretches far beyond the black hole information paradox and has already provided numerous insights throughout the field. I will discuss the several developments in the field of quantum gravity motivated by many concepts in quantum information theory, such as entanglement in holography and quantum error correction.
