Cosmogenic Activation and the DM-Ice Detector

DM-Ice is a planned 250 kg-scale dark matter experiment planned for deployment deep in the ice at the South Pole. Cosmogenic activation of low background material during transport to and storage at the South Pole (altitude 9,186 feet) has the potential to add a significant source of background and threaten the scientific potential of this experiment. We present studies into the possible effects of this activation and mitigation strategies being explored.
