For years, energy density functional (EDF) and configuration interaction (CI) methods have been used for nuclear structure calculations. A hybrid method, a new theoretical procedure combining characteristics of the two methods, has been developed to produce the most accurate calculations in some regions of the chart of nuclides. The island of inversion region, where configurations other than the standard filling of orbits are important, is an especially interesting case to study. We discuss the results for this region with our hybrid method, as well as future improvements and areas of research.
