I completed my practicum during the summer of 2008 at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. My project had two main parts: creating a portable and parallel version of a nuclear shell model code, and performing calculations in the 68Ni region. This region is particularly interesting because of the low-level excitations due to both neutron and proton excitations. I will discuss some results and experiences from my time at Livermore.
