Summary of Research

Justin works on nuclear diagnostics for inertial confinement fusion implosions. Specifically, he works on the knock-on deuteron imager (KoDI) and the temporal magnetic recoil spectrometer (MRSt).

KoDI is a penumbral imager that uses scattered deuterons to measure the shape of both the hot-spot and dense fuel of implosions at OMEGA. Fielding KoDI on multiple lines of sight allows for a 3D understanding of the implosion morphology. Justin's research currently focuses on developing reconstruction algorithms needed to produce the implosion morphology from raw data.

MRSt is a time-resolving neutron spectrometer that will measure the time-resolved ion temperature and areal density of implosions at the NIF. This will provide highly valuable information about implosion dynamics and ignition proximity. Justin's current research involves predicting and comparing the performance of various designs using synthetic data analysis.
