The Krell Institute is pleased to announce that a winner has been selected for the UCES 2005 award. He is Ignatios Vakalis, Professor of Math and Computer Science, Capital University. His award was for development of Computational Engineering and Science course material, distribution of web-based tools with cross-disciplinary impact, and establishment of the Keck Undergraduate CS&E Consortium.
Another entry was deemed to merit recognition as well. Therefore, an Honorable Mention has been awarded to Tom Murphy, Professor of Computer Science, Contra Costa College, for the development of a multi-node (up to 8) portable computational cluster (named Little-Fe) for educational use.
The UCES award program was created to promote and enhance undergraduate education in computational engineering and science (CES). The goals of the program are to encourage further development of innovative educational resources and programs; to recognize the achievements of CES educators; and to disseminate educational material and ideas to the broad scientific and engineering undergraduate community.
