Ames, IA (October 5, 2006) – The Krell Institute is pleased to announce the UCES 2006 award winners.  Three candidates were selected for awards, and the recipients will be recognized at a UCES Awards luncheon on November 13, 2006, during the SC’06 conference in Tampa, Florida.

A 2006 UCES Award is presented to Rubin Landau, Oregon State University, for publication of “A First Course in Scientific Computing: Symbolic, Graphic, and Numeric Modeling Using Maple, Java, Mathematica, and Fortran90” that introduces concepts of computational engineering and science using three programming paradigms with examples from physics, mathematics and other disciplines.

A 2006 UCES Award is presented to Angela Shiflet, Wofford College, for publication of “Introduction to Computational Science: Modeling and Simulation for the Sciences,” co-authored with George Shiflet, that effectively communicates the power of computational science using a variety of computational tools applied to several scientific disciplines.

A 2006 UCES National Program Award is presented to Robert Panoff, Shodor Education Foundation. Inc., for implementation of the National Computational Science Institute, whose multi-year efforts to encourage and equip undergraduate faculty to teach computational engineering and science have had a major impact on the development of this interdisciplinary field.

Created to promote and enhance undergraduate education in computational engineering and science (CES), the Undergraduate Computational Engineering and Sciences (UCES) award program encourages further development of innovative educational resources and programs; recognizes the achievements of CES educators; and disseminates educational material and ideas to the broad scientific and engineering undergraduate community.
