2010 Howes Scholar announced
Dr. Julianne Chung has been named the winner of the 2010 CSGF Howes
Scholar Award. The award will be presented to Dr. Chung at the
2010 Computational Science Graduate Fellowship

DOE CSGF Fellow is lead author of published paper
A Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship recipient is
lead author of a paper, published in the Proceedings of the National Academies of
Sciences (PNAS), which outlines a way to calculate effects of the Casimir
force.
The method described by fourth-year CSGF fellow Alejandro Rodriguez and his Massachusetts
Institute of Technology colleagues could have implications for microelectromechanical
systems (MEMS), microscopic machines with potential applications in medicine,
microelectronics and other areas.

Department of Energy Awards 21 Computational Science Graduate Fellowships
In 1991, in an effort to address the shortage of computational scientists in the United States,
the Department of Energy developed an innovative fellowship program. Now in its nineteenth year,
the Department of Energy’s Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF) continues
its commitment to training the next generation of scientific leaders as it welcomes 21 new students
to the program.

Department of Energy Awards Five Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowships
Recognizing an ever-increasing demand for scientists highly-trained in areas of interest to stewardship
science, the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration founded the Stewardship
Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE NNSA SSGF) in 2006. Now in its fifth year, five new fellows are being
