The primary goal of the Adventures in Supercomputing (AiS) program is to foster and enhance the participation of diverse populations of high school students in mathematics, science, and computing. In order to achieve this goal, the Adventures in Supercomputing project is designed to offer an interdisciplinary approach to project-based curriculum using the techniques of the emerging field of computational science. Computational science integrates the disciplines of mathematics, science, and engineering and utilizes computers, networking, and scientific visualization to simulate real-world problems. The AiS program was designed by scientists, engineers, and experienced teachers using current educational-research results, classroom experience, and feedback from professional evaluators. AiS has been tested, and assessed in over 100 public schools in five states (Alabama, Colorado, Iowa, New Mexico, and Tennessee). |
