Text Books

The text books that will be used in the class are:

  1. Designing and Building Parallel Programs by Ian Foster, Addison Wesley (required text).
  2. Laboratories for Parallel Computing by Nevison, Hyde, Schneider, and Tymann, Jones and Bartlett Publishers (optional).

Since high performance scientific computing is a rapidly evolving field, you will all be asked to track the relevant literature, and report interesting developments. A good place to start following the literature would be newsgroups like comp.parallel, and journals like IEEE Parallel and Distributed Technology, IEEE Computational Science magazine, IEEE Computer and Communications of the ACM. Later, you will be able to follow more advanced journals like the IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Computing, IEEE Transactions on Computers, Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, and Parallel Computing.
