Next: Week 13 Up: Week 12 Previous: Class 1: High

Class 2: Assessment

The first few minutes of the class will be used in doing course evaluations.

Next, we will conclude our discussion on HPF by looking at the Data Distribution Directives that we started discussing in the last class, and the FORALL statement and INDEPENDENT directive as means of achieving concurrency

At this stage, you should be ready to embark upon the fourth, and last, phase of our computational problem solving strategy: Assessment. One important assessment tool is Scientific Visualization. We will use a software package called Matlab, which provides you with visualization capability-especially if you are dealing with arrays of numbers. An on-line manual for matlab is available. This WWW manual will provide you with information about how to use Matlab as a visualization tool (you can also use it as a programming language with a syntax similar to HPF in some ways).
